ナイキは「2014 NFL Nike Silver Speed Collection」を1月8日発表した。今回発表されたコレクションは２月２日に開催される「Super Bowl」向けのスペシャルエディションである。プロダクトは「On-Field」「Sidelines」「Training」「Lifestyle」の４カテゴリーで構成され、広範なアイテムが発表された。開発はVince Lombardi Trophyからインスピレーションを得て開発したと発表している。コレクションはSuper Bowlに合わせてNike.comで発売されるが、一部プロダクトについては発売時期、販売ルートまちまちになっている。

Vince Lombardiと言ってるくらいだから、当然、グリンベイ（LombardiはPackersの伝説的HCだった）の寒さを考慮して、防寒用アイテムが多数投入されている。なにしろ1月５日の　NFL Wildcard WeekendにPackersと49ersが対戦した日は気温が華氏０度で、摂氏ならマイナス18度だから、体感温度は摂氏マイナス20度近くに達したのである。

ナイキはNFLとオフィシャルサプライヤー契約を締結しているが、このSuper Bowlコレクションは大歓迎されるに違いない。ニューイヤーから始まった北米の大寒波で、今年のNFL Playoffsは選手もファンも震え上がっている。とにかくニューイヤーのアメリカでは、暖かいアイテムは大人気なのである。
